Chinese Language Learning

The Chinese language component of New West After School works best when students attend the class daily. The instruction is rigorous and thorough and the course aims at principles of strictness, high efficiency, and creativity employing cherished methodology and a keen pursuit of progress. Instructors  possess a strong sense of responsibility and work with earnestness, keeping up with each student's practical academic performance. Classrooms reflect a delightful and relaxed atmosphere intended to encourage students who are willing and eager to learn to speak and write in the Chinese language. Chinese courses also incorporate a variety of culturally relevant activities such as paper-cutting, calligraphy, abacus and hand-crafts. Students are assessed and assigned to one of two levels for Chinese instruction. Appropriate instruction focuses on vocabulary and oral communication as well as writing characters and reading published texts.  All instruction integrates with and supplements standard HSK and AP tests.

Fitness through Fencing and more!
Physical fitness is a critical component of a child's well-being, and providing regular physical activity is easy at New West After School via our well-established fencing program. Beginner level instruction in foil fencing, includes blade & footwork drill  and supervised controlled bouting experiences. All equipment and safety gear is included. Students must wear appropriate athletic attire & footwear. Table tennis and badminton will employ ladder tournament play supervised by adult staff. Wu-Shu martial arts and an introductory level of classical ballet are also planned. More information coming soon.
